Anchor & Compass Mentorship Programme
Young migrant newcomers in the Netherlands face significant social isolation and a lack of structural connection with Dutch society. These young people lack a social and spiritual safety net: after initial reception, there is often no natural network of support figures or role models to guide them. Most organisations are focused on procedural and practical matters, which puts pressure on psychosocial development and future planning, leading to a higher risk of dropping out of school, loneliness, and missing out on opportunities essential to discovering their full potential.
Anchor & Compass is a twelve-month mentorship and development program that pairs young newcomers (ages 16-25) with established, local volunteers. The goal is to break social isolation and increase self-reliance. Through one-on-one mentoring, skills training, and joint community activities, the young people build a social network, strengthen their language skills, and develop a future perspective in Dutch society. The project directly contributes to social cohesion by promoting mutual understanding between the newcomers and the local community.
